Digital Health Technologies to Address Healthcare Delivery Challenges

Thursday, December 5, 2024 – 2:00 pm CT

Steven Steinhubl, MD
Vincent P. Reilly Professor
Purdue University

About the Webinar:

Over 10 years ago we published a Viewpoint expressing how digital health “… technologies have the potential to change every aspect of the health care environment and to do so while delivering better outcomes and substantially lowering costs.” While there has been progress over the last decade, for the most part, there remains a disappointing lack of clinical effectiveness data supporting the widescale implementation of digital health technologies (DHTs) to improve healthcare. In this presentation we will discuss some of the more glaring needs to be addressed, technologies that can potential be part of the solutions, and a suggestion of a path for DHTs to achieve their potential in improving health for all.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Steinhubl is a career-long clinician-scientist and the Vincent P. Reilly Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Purdue University. Prior to returning to Purdue, Steve was founding Director of Digital Medicine at Scripps Research’s Translational Institute.  He remains clinically active as a cardiologist in both Indiana and Alaska.  He received his undergraduate training in chemical engineering at Purdue, medical degree at St. Louis University and cardiology training at the Cleveland Clinic.

His research centers on the implementation science behind the use of the full range of digital health technologies in health research and health care, from the development of individualized digital biomarkers made possible by wearable sensors as well as AI-based analytic insights, and AI-augmented precision communications to provide personalized, real-time value to individuals.  A key emphasis of his research is exploring how digital technologies can address health disparities.

Steve has been the principal investigator of dozens of US-wide and global clinical trials, has published over 300 peer-reviewed manuscripts and was the founding Editor-in-Chief of Nature Partner Journal - Digital Medicine. He is also the default breakfast cook at his wife’s B&B, Susitna Place, in Anchorage Alaska. More about Steven Steinhubl.
